“Listen to me, your body is not a temple. Temples can be destroyed and desecrated. Your body is a forest—thick canopies of maple trees and sweet scented wildflowers sprouting in the underwood. You will grow back, over and over, no matter how badly you are devastated.”
― Beau Taplin
I recommend performing this ritual at the beginning or end of your day, but feel free to do this at any time. Beginning with this blessing is a beautiful way of priming your day, and also a great way to wash away a heavy day. Make this your own unique prayer, to your personal self.
How often do we let ourselves take in our form? How often do we just admire our bodies?
How often do we hide from ourselves, either for fear of appearing self-absorbed, or because we didn't like what we saw? Take this moment to appreciate the story of your body. The years, the time, the pain, the pleasure.
Indeed, our bodies are the only thing we will ever truly have in this life.
Start this ritual by cleansing yourself. I like to bathe with herbs, salt, in candlelight, while burning white sage or palo santo. Cleanse however you feel best.
Once you are cleansed, face yourself, naked in a full mirror.
At this point, you may anoint yourself with oils, or drag a feather across your body, or simply touch each part as you speak the blessing aloud. Feel free to say "Thank You" to each body part instead of "Blessed Be".
HEAD: Blessed be my mind, that I may be focused, clear, and open throughout my day.
EYES/THIRD EYE: Blessed be my sight, that I may see the beauty in myself and in all of Life.
MOUTH: Blessed be my lips and mouth, that I may taste the sweetness of my life.
Blessed be my voice that I may sing praise to the Goddess, that I may sing the songs of Creation, that I may speak for those who cannot.
SHOULDERS: Blessed be my shoulders and the weight I bear, may it be lightened.
HEART: Blessed be my heart, that it may shine its true radiance, that I may feel my own love, and share it with all I meet.
BREASTS: Blessed be my breasts, that I may give and receive nourishment.
STOMACH: Blessed be my gut intuition, my digestion, my core, that I may never hunger and never thirst. That I may quench my desire for fulfillment, and feed my hunger for pleasure.
WOMB: Blessed be my Womb, that I may give birth to myself, my creations, and my life with grace. Bless my creations, my cycles, my seasons and tides, teach me to trust this Ebb and Flow. May I surrender to the Red River, as all women must do.
YONI: Blessed be my Yoni, my VAGINA, that I may know the Mysteries of erotic innocence, that I may allow pleasure in every day of my life.
LEGS: Blessed be my legs, that I may run with the wolves and the Wise Women before me.
FEET: Blessed be my feet, and these steps I take. May I walk lightly on the path to myself.
